BASIC OUTDOOR SKILLS DAY
5. Learn how to tie and release a square knot and what a square knot is used for. A square knot is used for tying two ends together when both ropes are of about the same thickness. We practiced tying and releasing the knot until we could do it fairly fast. Then came the big test! The girls tied their ropes to their neighbor's ropes until they formed a big loop. They then got inside the ring and leaned back so it was supporting their weight. The idea was, if everyone tied their knots correctly the rope would support them. Unfortunately one of the knots was less than perfect and to a number of squeals and much laughter, the loop broke.
As you can see from the pictures, the girls didn't take long to learn to tie a square knot, however we were all very impressed by the board Ms. Kenna had set up displaying some really complicated knots that we can learn in the future.
We were very proud of how well everyone behaved, and as you can see below there was no messing around - it was work, work, work all day.
What sweet and charming young ladies you all are......
